Hey Dream

Why is it so important to eat Grass fed dairy and meat instead of grass fed but grain finished?
I live in a country where it is very hard to find meat that is both grass fed and finished, so what are the negative effects of eating grain finished beef?

It's also difficult to find grass finished meat in Central Florida.

Basically the fat content of meat can change even in a few weeks of grain feeding- from a high concentration of omega 3 fatty acids (grass fed), to a low concentration of omega 3 fatty acids. When the omega 3 drops, it is replaced by the omega 6 fatty acids found in grain (I can imagine the toxins found in grain also make their way to conventional meat, but in small quantities).

While omega 6 fat is not "bad" for you, ideally you want about a 1:1 intake of 3 and 6.

The same applies to fat from dairy- feed the cow grain, the fat content changes.

All in all, it's not the biggest deal in the world, but if at all possible, get grass finished meat and dairy. Virtually all animals are not meant to eat corn and soy, and when they are (like us), they get sick. Eating sick animals with out of proportion nutrient ratios is not ideal.

I read a part of the journal of 'the Bear', and it is pretty interesting. What do you think about eating Beef Tallow?

He also says it is okay to go up to 80% fat in your diet... That would be pretty cheap since you would only need like 500g of meat and lots of fat each day.

I've been digging through his journal for weeks now, excellent read- not flawless, but excellent.

I think eating beef tallow is fine...havent done it myself, but I don't see why not. More kick ass animal fat.

80% is a bit high, but I think it is fine for most people. I can't imagine my intake is that high though, probably closer to 70%. Either way, with no carbs in the diet, the rest is protein.

this is sorta off track but just helped butcher a cow today, I was only there for part of it, and only cut up into four sections, two weeks from now is second part on it, about half or quarter of meat is going to be used by my family, and its all GRASS FED!

Anyone here eat only organic chicken and grass fed beef? I have been eating organic and from local farmers whenever I can because its  for the health benefits mostly. Thoughts?

I am not convinced "raw" really has any benefits over food that isn't overcooked. So, overcooking food destroys nutrients, but cooking it to your preference is fine (imo).

That book will explain cooking as it relates to human evolution well, check it out

What do you think about salt intake? I eat a lot of beef jerky, so I take in a lot of salt.

I found this farm in Plant City, near Tampa, that will sell you the meat from a quarter, half or whole grass fed cow. I'll have to do the math to see how much I would save by buying a quarter cow. Their ground beef is 6 dollars a pound, 2 bucks cheaper than Whole Foods. I'd have to calculate how much I would have to buy to make it worth a trip.

Grassland beef rocks. I've bought hundreds of dollars of stuff from them.

They actually pay their affiliates too. I got like a $20 check from them last year after doing an affiliate link on my blog for their stuff. Had no idea it was coming, but it cashed just fine.

Besides the health benefits from purely grassfed and grass finished beef.

In a nutshell, the meat will still lose many of its nutrients within a month of switching to grain before getting the butcher's knife. But besides that, I've got a more complete reason.

This made me so sad and angry since you see all the bullshit that goes into the production of food that doesn't get a chance at a natural life without any antibiotics, hormones, etc. I wanted to fucking cry after 15 minutes, and I'm not a pussy who doesn't like to eat meat, or go hunting.

If you watch this movie, you'll be scared and smart enough to stop supporting grain products and go for the quality naturally raised food.
